As you may have noticed, we have a new look Darklife.
The content has changed a little and many new pictures have been added.
The newest Topic is Cave Life. This is part of an ongoing project to build a photographic species list of all of the life that occurs in Caves of the Cape. This topic will eventually end up as a Theme on Iziko Museums' Biodiversity Explorer
.If you would like to contribute photographs or assist with the project, please contact Anthony Hitchcock or Peter Swart
The next WSAR medical evening will be this Wednesday 1 April 2009 in the SACS auditorium at 18:00.
Due to popular demand, the evening will be devoted to "How to help the medic" otherwise known as "Where do I shove this, doc?"
Technical rescuers have become bored with idly standing around while the medic sticks needles into the victim and now they too want to join in the fun. So in order to understand where to stick what (but not why), you are invited to a fun-filled evening of playing with sundry medical equipment.
There will be a short overview of how to be useful to the medic. Then you will rotate around a series of stations where various specific equipment and/or techniques will be demonstrated - and you'll get to Do Stuff. If you ask nicely you may even get to shout "Clear!" John Roos has kindly volunteered to be the patient for this station.
Seriously, the following may be demonstrated: Basic Life Support CPR, how to help with putting up a drip, how to rig stretchers (all sorts), the HED, cervical spine protection and C-collars, transferring a patient with a suspected spinal injury onto a stretcher, fracture splinting, managing a shoulder dislocation, controlling bleeds, etc.
The evening will be run by Dr Christian Bremm. See you there.

Due to the unprecedented response to the caving trip on Saturday 4th April, mostly from first-time cavers, the previously chosen caves are unsuitable as is the mass walking through the fynbos. Instead, the route will be the Clovelly/Oread/Boomslang circuit.
Meet at Godfrey Road/Boyes Drive - 8.30 a.m. Leader: Ron Zeeman (084-679-4240) PLEASE LET RON KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING
