Meyer Place Names

Johan Meyer was an avid namer. Not only did he name most of the places, paths and cave that we know on Kalk Bay Mountain, but he painted the names as well.

His diaries record how he would prepare the rock, by painting an aluminium paint patch on the rock. The next time he visited the place, we would paint a black (or white) block over the aluminium patch. On the next visit, he would paint the place name, and sometimes would add a verse to sign.

After over 70 years, many of these names are still in good condition, while others have been worn away or vandalised.

This is a collection of the some Meyers's place name signs.
